International. Embraco highlighted its actions focused on migration to natural or ecological gases, such as R600a (isobutane) and R290 (propane).
Over the years there have been different migrations in gases for the use of refrigerants, such as the one that happened at the end of the 80's, when the Montreal Treaty came into force, prohibiting R12 and R22 gases, which are considered highly harmful to the ozone layer. A new migration is currently taking place, now towards natural or ecological gases.
The first migration was aimed at stopping the damage that was being done to the ozone layer when gases were released into the atmosphere and had a high ozone destruction value. however, with a high level of Global Warming Potential (GWP), that is, gases that take a long time to degrade when released in large quantities into the atmosphere, which is why a new migration is necessary, now to gases with low levels that no longer affect global warming.
Embraco mentions that it has focused its resources on the use of R600a (isobutane) and R290 (propane) gases, hydrocarbons with the lowest levels of GWP and also with the shortest degradation time. Although these are flammable, when used with the right tools and procedures, they are the best alternative to being natural gases.
Embraco has a portfolio of compressors approved with R600a and R290, in addition, in its Apodaca plant the first R290 compressor was manufactured in 2017 and this year they have already produced the first runs of R600a compressors.
In this regard, David Ramírez, Application Engineer at Embraco assures: "At Embraco we will continue to develop products for natural and synthetic refrigerants of low GWP to exceed present and future energy efficiency standards, in order to ensure the competitiveness of our customers' products and thus meet the expectations of the end user".
An example of the solutions that the company has developed with the use of natural refrigerant R290 (propane) is Plug n' Cool, which has high energy efficiency oriented to vertical applications of supermarkets, both for chilled and frozen. Plug n' Cool is a compact, low-cost installation and maintenance time solution, and functional for small or medium-sized stores.
The company is oriented, not only in creating products but also in providing complete solutions, which cover the training to all its customers in Latin America, through training for the correct use of R600a and R290 in their cooling systems and thus end the myths of risk in the use of these gases.
One of the main goals of Embraco is to continue offering increasingly efficient products in terms of environmental care, which is why they invest in research and development in the low GWP refrigerant market and thus contribute with solutions to achieve a better future for humanity.
