Santiago, Chile. The smart construction sector in Chile took a relevant step with the holding of the Building Automation Days by KNX LATAM Virtual, Chile 2026, an informative and educational space that highlighted the progress of the KNX global standard in the country.
During the day, the main advantages of this technology were addressed, as well as its impact on the transformation of buildings into smarter, more sustainable and efficient assets. The event also made it clear that home automation and building automation are ceasing to be emerging trends and becoming pillars of urban development.
An ecosystem that integrates education, industry and design
The meeting brought together experts from the sector who analysed automation from different perspectives, highlighting the importance of training, technical design and interoperability.
Ignacio Rojas, from IPLACEX, emphasized that education is the pillar to close the digital divide, inviting professionals to become certified as KNX Partners. For his part, Emilio Doizi, from VIMAR, highlighted the importance of the aesthetics and reliability of high-end devices in the end-user experience.
The discussion was enriched by the insight of Gerald Esparza from DOMUS, who underlined the robustness of KNX in large-scale projects. Esparza emphasised that, unlike "technology islands" or retail solutions, KNX ensures operational continuity and long-term availability of spare parts thanks to interoperability between more than 500 manufacturers.
From the perspective of design and management, Víctor Caviedes, from SMART TALENT, stressed that the key to maximizing energy efficiency is not only to install equipment, but to carry out a superior technical design that uses presence and measurement sensors to optimize real electricity consumption. Likewise, Germán Céspedes, from ECOELEC, contributed his experience in technical training, validating that the projected growth of 20% for 2026 makes automation an unprecedented market opportunity.
Security, regulations and an expanding market
One of the central topics of the event was the security and reliability of automated installations. In this regard, the experts explained how the KNX Secure protocol makes it possible to protect critical infrastructures, such as hospitals or airports, through data encryption, reducing exposure to cyberattacks.
This technological development is aligned with the Chilean regulatory framework, particularly with the Energy Efficiency Law (Law 21.305) and the RIC14 regulation, which establish demanding goals in terms of reducing energy consumption.
In this context, building automation is no longer a complementary option and is now consolidated as a key requirement to comply with current construction standards in Chile.
Call for the face-to-face congress
As part of the sector's activities, the organizers extended the invitation to a face-to-face event that will allow them to delve into the programming of systems and learn first-hand about these solutions.
The congress will be held on May 14, 2026 at the Iplacex Central Institute, in Santiago, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with free admission. The day will feature technical demonstrations and the participation of specialized exhibitors.
