In Argentina, renewable energy generation prices fall

Argentina. Out of a total of 228 projects received for 9,391.3 MW, 192 have been qualified for a total of 7,496.3 MW.

After the opening of the economic envelopes of Round 2 of the Renovate Program, with a floor of 47.64 dollars per Mw for wind technology and U$s 48.67 per Mw in the case of solar photovoltaic, the national State received record price offers for the generation of electricity from these renewable energy sources.

"To have convenient tariffs, the key is to be able to structure the long term, and in that sense a shield was established with three levels of guarantee and an unprecedented trust," explained Sebastián Kind, Undersecretary of Renewable Energies, in order to support business initiatives.

For Round 2, 228 bids were submitted for a total of 9,391.3 MW, almost 8 times more than the 1,200 MW of power included in this tender for wind, solar photovoltaic, biomass, biogas, small hydroelectric uses and biogas from landfill technologies.

Of the total, 192 proposals were considered, which passed the first stage of technical qualification, for a total accumulated power of 7,496.3 Mw, of which the highest concentration was registered in wind projects for 3,468.5 Mw and solar for 3,754 Mw.

In the wind sector, the average price of the projects offered was US$/MWh 47.64 (31.5% lower than the average price offered in Round 1 and 12.1% lower than that received in Round 1.5). In the case of the Solar category, the average price was US$/MWh 48.67 (36.2% lower than the average price offered in Round 1 and 13.2% lower than that received in Round 1.5).

The average price of the projects offered in the Biomass category was US$/MWh 107.07 (6.5% lower than the average price offered in Round 1 non-participating technology of Round 1.5-). In the biogas category, it was US$/MWh 157.97 (15.7% lower than the average price offered in Round 1 non-participating technology of Round 1.5-).

The average price of the projects offered in the Small Hydroelectric Exploitation category was US$/MWh 97.28 (15.1% lower than the average price offered in Round 1 non-participating technology of Round 1.5-). In the Biogas category of Landfill was US$/MWh 129.18.
