Canada. The company celebrates four decades in the building automation market, consolidating a trajectory marked by the continuity of its human team, long-term relationships with distributors and a sustained commitment to sustainability.
Founded in 1986 in Victoria, the company was born with the premise of developing healthier, safer and more sustainable buildings for their occupants. Over the past 40 years, it has managed to position itself internationally thanks to long-lasting products, a stable network of business partners and a business philosophy focused on trust.
"In conversations with distributors and people who have been associated with Reliable Controls for a long time, they often attribute our shared success to the fact that we do what we say we will do, we do the right thing, and we have always tried to prioritize the planet along with other business priorities," said Cameron Lutz, Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
Continuity as a competitive advantage
In a sector characterized by rapid talent turnover and constant technological disruption, the company stands out for the permanence of its team. Several employees have between 10 and 30 years of experience within the organization, a factor that, according to the company, translates into accumulated experience and long-term strategic vision for customers and partners.
"I'm in my 26th year at Reliable Controls and I've seen it grow from a very small company to what it is today," said Vince Palmer, executive vice president of operations. "Leadership, values and a commitment to being people and technology that our dealers and customers can trust have led us to this milestone."
Today, Reliable Controls supports buildings in 45 countries through a network of 250 authorized distributors. Many of them have maintained business ties with the company since the 1990s, reflecting operational stability and consistent performance at thousands of facilities worldwide.
Another differentiator pointed out by the company is its commitment to the backward compatibility of its products, a rare practice in the technology industry that allows customers to protect investments made decades ago.
Since its founding, the company designs, manufactures, and supports its solutions in Canada, with operations in Edmonton and Victoria. This strategy has allowed it to strengthen regional economies while serving a growing global demand in the building automation and control sector.
Looking ahead, Reliable Controls focuses its strategy on developing resilient, safe and energy-efficient buildings, as well as moving towards the goal of net-zero emissions by 2030 at its Hallowell Road facility.
"For me, our 40th anniversary underscores how incredible the building controls industry really is," said Reliable Controls President Tom Zaban. "Once people get involved, I suspect they rarely leave. It maintains interest in the breadth and depth of disciplines it integrates and because, in essence, it leverages technology that is continuously improving to help people carry out their daily activities in a safe, productive and efficient environment."
