Caracas Metro rehabilitated its refrigeration plant

Metro de Caracas rehabilitó su planta de Refrigeración N° 1

Venezuela. According to Engineer Jimy Danelli, the government rescue program called El Metro se Mueve Contigo (The Metro Moves with You) made it possible to complete the rehabilitation of the Central Refrigeration Plant No. 1 located in the Sucre Parish, in the Boulevard de Catia sector.

Now, this plant has three new ice water generators of 800 tons of refrigeration, which have been manufactured by the LG company of Korea.  These equipment have the latest diagnostic, control and energy efficiency technology, it works with R134a Refrigerant and in a voltage of 480 v 3 PH 60hz.

"It is important to mention that this plant has four ice water pumps and four condensate water pumps, in addition to three cooling towers. All this equipment was replaced and installed totally new, the medium voltage transformers that feed the plant with 12.47 KV -480v were replaced, motor control centers and all the force and control wiring were installed. The prestigious company specializing in HVAC systems Refriamérica was in charge of undertaking this great project," said Danelli.

Other stations that are associated with this refrigeration plant, such as Pérez Bonalde, Plaza Sucre and Gato Negro (belonging to Line 1 of the Caracas Metro that crosses from west to east of the city) were subject to repairs, cleaning of ducts, coils of the Air Handling Units, fans, motors and their different pipes and valves. they were intervened and replaced in some cases.

With this refrigeration plant, the stations are air-conditioned, reducing the temperature of the stations by about 3 to 4 degrees the outside temperature of these stations, in addition the air is 100% fresh air which is filtered by banks of filters that allow the dust that enters the stations to be retained, on the other hand this air conditioning system in stations also supplies fresh air to the different equipment of the train in the part lower by means of ducts that are under the train track, improving the air conditioning of the train operating equipment and in the same way the air conditioning system for the wagons of the system.

"It is important to mention that line 1 in the Propatria - Chacaito section has this type of central plants and in total there are three large plants: Plant 1 already mentioned, Refrigeration Plant N2 located in the center of Caracas near the Parque Carabobo station and refrigeration plant N°3 located in Chacaíto that supplies ice water to the Plaza Venezuela stations. Sabana Grande and Chacaíto. The stations that continue from Chacao to culminate in the east of the city, at the Palo Verde station, have local chilled water systems or local plants with two chillers of an average of 150 tons of air-cooled refrigeration and with scroll compressor technology. In the same order of ideas, the Caracas Metro is executing the recovery of the air conditioning systems of the trains of the different lines 1,2,3,4,5, improving the quality of service to users and benefiting the communities of the city of Caracas," said Engineer Danelli.
