ASHRAE announced its new president for 2023-2024

Ginger Scoggins

United States. Ginger Scoggins, P.E., a member of ASHRAE, will serve as president of the Society for the 2023-2024 term. During his inaugural presidential address, Scoggins introduced the 2023-43 Year of Society theme, "Accepted Challenge: Addressing the Climate Crisis." The theme explores integrated solutions to address the effects of the climate crisis through meaningful building decarbonisation strategies.

"We live in a climate emergency," Scoggins said. "Our desire to be more comfortable has led us to a place where we need to make uncomfortable decisions. We can take up today's challenge regarding the impact of our buildings on the climate crisis by giving our members the knowledge they need to design and renovate buildings to address our industry's greenhouse gas emissions."

Scoggins is president and owner of Engineered Designs, Inc., an engineering consulting firm in Cary, North Carolina.

The elected officials who will serve during the year are as follows:
* President-elect: Dennis Knight, P.E., BEMP, ASHRAE member, director, Whole Building Systems, LLC., Mount Pleasant, S.C.
* Treasurer: Bill McQuade, P.E., member of ASHRAE, LEED AP, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Baltimore Aircoil Company, Jessup, Maryland.
* Vice President: Billy Austin, P.E., BCxP, BEAP, BEMP, CHD, HBDP, HFDP, OPMP, ASHRAE Member, Director, Shultz Engineering Group, Charlotte, N.C.
* Vice President: Ashish Rakheja, ASHRAE Member, Director/Chief Operating Officer, Aeon, Noida, India.

In the 2021-22 Year of Society, ASHRAE members voted to amend Section 5.1 of the ASHRAE Bylaws so that the Society's Vice Presidents serve a two-year term instead of two consecutive one-year terms. This approved amendment was implemented on the ballot for the 2023-24 Society Year candidates. The following officers shall serve a two-year term:

* Vice President: Wade H. Conlan, P.E., BCxP, member ASHRAE, CxA, LEED AP BD+C, director, Hanson Professional Services, Maitland, Fla.
* Vice President: Chandra Sekhar, CPEng., Ph.D., ASHRAE Fellow, Professor, National University of Singapore, Singapore.

ASHRAE introduced its new Directors and Regional Presidents who will serve three-year terms between 2022 and 2025:
* Region VII Director and Regional President: Scott Peach, P.E., FPE, ASHRAE member, president, SP Engineering, Mobile, Ala.
* Region VIII Director and Regional President: Joseph Sanders, ASHRAE Member, Mechanical Sales Engineer, R.B. Akins Company, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
* Region IX Director and Regional President: Jonathan Smith, P.E., Member ASHRAE, CEM, LEED AP, Business Development Manager, Siemens, Lenexa, Kan.
* Region X Regional Director and President: Buzz Wright, P.E., member ASHRAE, CEM, LEED AP, mechanical engineer, Kelly Wright and Associates PC, Tucson, Ariz.
* Director of Region XIV and Regional President: Mahroo Eftekhari, C.Eng., CDPhil, Member ASHRAE, SFHEA, Professor of Construction Services Engineering, Loughborough University, Loughborough, England.

ASHRAE also introduced its new Directors General (DAL):
* Doug C. Cochrane, P.Eng., ASHRAE Member, LEED AP, Independent Consultant, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
* Corey B. Metzger, P.E., ASHRAE Member, Director, Resource Consulting Engineers, LLC, Ames, Iowa.
* Heather Schopplein-Anderson, P.E., member ASHRAE, CM-LEAN, DBIA, engineer, UMEC, Santee, California.
