HVAC in hospitals remains a challenge for the HVAC industry

climatización en hospitales

Latin America. According to Daikin the environmental requirements of hospitals, make them particularly different from other buildings, hence the air conditioning system must respond, in addition to comfort, to maintain areas free of viruses and bacteria, among other requirements.

According to the company "hospitals are critical environments of concentrations of various diseases and / or diseases, can therefore control and / or regulate indoor air is key to eliminate any proliferation or transmission of microorganisms harmful to health."

In this sense, care must be taken for hygiene and indoor air quality, hence "the air conditioning system is key to maintaining areas free of viruses and bacteria, in addition to providing comfort for patients and staff of hospital institutions, through adequate temperature, air flows, humidity control and high levels of air quality that are required to avoid the transmission of hospital-acquired infections. "

That is why Daikin assures that it is essential to understand the specific needs of each hospital unit, since they have different requirements, according to various factors such as the type of activity, the clothing of the users and the location, among others.

Specifically, the factors that define the appropriate air conditioning solution for each area are defined by different standards, either those that apply at local levels that vary in each country, but especially taking as reference the standards of the ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers) for the case of Latin America.

Julia Rodríguez, director of consultative sales at Daikin Mexico, commented: "Daikin has extensive experience in this area, we offer a range of solutions aimed at energy efficiency in air conditioning for hospitals, heating and ventilation for hospitals, which offer a comfortable and healthy environment that helps protect the well-being of both patients and staff. "

Difficulties in hospitals
Hospitals need to have under control all the factors that can be routes for the proliferation or transmission of microorganisms harmful to health, within that adequate ventilation with optimal maintenance is contemplated. In addition, health centers have medical equipment that requires specific temperatures, as well as medicines and chemicals that cannot be at the expense of outside temperatures.

Therefore, hospital ventilation systems must have the ability to adjust according to the conditions of each area and moment, precise control of temperature and humidity settings within multiple zones, are basic in complex healthcare environments and hospitals.

According to Daikin, only through a control of the zones and individual units is it guaranteed that heating and cooling are used only when necessary, to minimize energy costs, so it is advisable to work together with the designer to establish the correct air flows, air and water temperatures, as well as the levels of air quality needed in each area.

That, added to a high-efficiency ice water generator with ideal characteristics for critical operation; can be integrated together with intelligent energy management solutions to reduce operating costs and environmental impact; thus helping to achieve the objectives of reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption.

"In addition to choosing the best air conditioning system, you must have specialized contractors with experience in this sector; Likewise, a reliable team responsible for maintenance, because a poorly designed or installed installation will not comply with optimal operation and the hospital will suffer havoc until having a complete renovation practically in building. The preventive maintenance of the system must be periodic, taking great care in the renewal of adequate filters that allow to meet the air quality standards, "concluded Julia Rodríguez.
