Daikin's new manufacturing facility in Mexico to begin full operations in 2024

Daikin

Mexico. Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc. unveiled plans for the construction of a new 761,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Mexico that will be fully operational by 2024.

It is estimated that the investment in this project is about US $ 230 million and is in response to the growing demand for products of the brand, both in North America and Latin America.

"Daikin is intensely focused on becoming the North American HVAC industry leader in everything from production and innovation to quality and customer service," said Satoru Akama, president and CHIEF Executive Officer of Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc. "To meet the increased demand for our technologies and products in North America and Latin America, and from a business continuity standpoint, it is absolutely necessary to expand our manufacturing presence in Mexico."

The new facility will locate the production of Daikin FIT residential inverter and mini-split products that are currently imported from manufacturing sites in Asia.

Daikin has already expanded its manufacturing presence in Mexico, migrating production from some modular blower product lines to a 200,000-square-foot repurposed facility. That facility will complement production at DTTP with five product lines once it is fully operational in 2023.

"It is vital to integrate production locally to efficiently maintain our high standards to provide quality service to our customers," said Akama. "It also underscores our belief in adding manufacturing capacity where our products are bought, sold and used."

The vast majority of manufacturing operations will remain on DTTP's 4.3 million square foot campus, where production volume, scale and headcount will not be affected by the new sites. Production at DTTP is on track to eclipse the manufacturing records set in Fiscal 21.

"Daikin Texas Technology Park will continue to be the center of our operations and the vanguard of Daikin's innovation in North America," said Akama. "Our presence in Mexico will be a wonderful complement to the tremendous achievements and continued growth in manufacturing operations at DTTP."

DTTP, which has served as the company's North American headquarters since 2017, currently employs a workforce of close to 10,000 and continues to actively recruit new team members.

Growth beyond the boundaries of DTTP's massive facilities is a corollary of Daikin's expansion in the United States. Demand for Daikin, Goodman and Amana brand products has increased significantly in more than 80 locations and 20 states over the past 21 months through the acquisition of Stevens Equipment Supply, LLC, ABCO HVACR Supply + Solutions, Robinson Plumbing & Heating Supply Co., Inc. Thermal Supply, Inc., AirReps, LLC and CCOM Group, Inc.

Daikin has also expanded its operations in the Greater Houston region in recent years. In 2020, it added 62,000 square feet of office space and common areas in DTTP. Last year, the company signed a 494,800-square-foot lease in northwest Houston to complement distribution and logistics operations. Daikin has since built that site, which now serves as a parts distribution center.
