Carrier Launches HFO R-1234ze Chiller Series for Industrial Process Applications

Carrier

International. Carrier introduced the AquaForce® Vision 30KAV with PUREtec™ refrigerant, a new line of compact, high-performance process cooling chillers with ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) R-1234ze refrigerant.

The new line of chillers is optimized for industrial processing, such as food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, metallurgical industries and applications that require ultra-reliable cooling down to -12°C.

Carrier's AquaForce Vision 30KAV air-cooled variable-speed screw coolers are designed to minimize energy consumption and impact on the environment while maximizing performance and ease of installation and maintenance. Energy-efficient solutions like the AquaForce 30KAV chiller support Carrier's environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals by 2030 to reduce its customers' carbon footprint by more than 1 gigaton.

The cooler comes in four sizes, with capacities ranging from 280 kW to 800 kW in -4°C/-8°C medium temperature process cooling and from 530 kW to 1300 kW in 12/7°C high temperature process cooling or comfort cooling. The unit's carbon footprint is minimized thanks to its combination of ultra-low GWP HFO refrigerant, a 40% reduction in refrigerant load due to the use of Novation® microchannel heat exchangers, and excellent energy efficiency provided by the integrated variable speed drive, which precisely matches the compressor speed to the load. The compact design of the chiller, with a physical size one third smaller than standard 30KAV chillers, allows it to be deployed in places with little space without compromising performance.

For mission-critical applications such as process refrigeration and food manufacturing, Carrier has developed an ultra-fast capacity recovery option. In the event that the chiller's power supply is interrupted, the recovery option allows immediate restart of the cooler after power restoration with 100% capacity recovery within one minute, minimizing the risk of damage to the process or products being cooled.

Heat recovery option
All 30KAV models can also be equipped with an innovative enhanced total heat recovery option that allows more heat to be recovered during the winter, further increasing efficiency and reducing running costs. The heat recovery option uses a hybrid design that leverages the benefits of both serial and parallel design approaches. When heat recovery is activated, the air-cooled coils are automatically isolated to reduce the impact of cold ambient air on the heat capacity that can be recovered from the water-cooled heat exchanger.

This option increases heat recovery by 25% at rated load with an outside air temperature of 35°C, and by 100% or more when the chiller operates at a low outside air temperature, compared to the traditional serial-only approach to heat recovery. The cooling capacity of the chiller also slightly improves in the heat recovery mode. Due to its compliance with the requirements of the European Ecodesign Directive, the AquaForce 30KAV can also be used in comfort cooling applications.

For contractors and service personnel, the 30KAV has been designed to be quick and easy to install and maintain. Its compact dimensions facilitate access in areas where space is small, while its electrical system ensures compatibility with grounding requirements in different segments. In addition, the use of intelligent energy monitoring and leak detection on board makes it possible to monitor the operation of the cooler in real time.

For total peace of mind and to minimize running costs, building owners and facility managers can opt for one of Carrier's BluEdge™ service support options to keep chillers running at peak performance and efficiency throughout their lifecycle. Service support uses Carrier's advanced cloud-based diagnostics platform within BluEdge to monitor and optimize coolers remotely and, if necessary, through site visits by highly experienced personnel.
