Air quality company presented its results on ionization tests against COVID-19

International. Global Plasma Solutions, an indoor air quality solutions company, announced the results of ionization tests, demonstrating a 99.4% reduction rate of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) at a surface pressure in 30 minutes. According to the company, it is the first instance in which an air purification company has effectively neutralized SARS-CoV-2.

Following initial testing of the 229E coronavirus in March 2020, Global Plasma Solutions used its patented needle-tipped bipolar ionization to inactivate SARS-CoV-2. The study was conducted in conjunction with Aviation Clean Air.

In this laboratory study, Aviation Clean Air designed a test to mimic ionization conditions such as that of the fuselage of a commercial aircraft. Based on viral ratings, it was determined that within 10 minutes, 84.2% of the virus was inactivated. At 15 minutes, 92.6% of the virus was inactivated, and at 30 minutes, 99.4% of the virus was inactivated.

Charles Waddell, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Global Plasma Solutions, commented: "For any type of installation, from commercial buildings to aircraft, offering the cleanest and safest indoor air environment will be increasingly important, and our ozone-free technology is one of the most sophisticated products on the market."

Understanding needle-tipped bipolar ionization
Needle-tipped bipolar ionization works to safely clean indoor air, leveraging an electronic charge to create a high concentration of positive and negative ions. These ions travel through the air continuously seeking and adhering to particles. This sets in motion a continuous pattern of particle combination. As these particles get bigger, they are removed from the air more quickly.

In addition, positive and negative ions have microbicidal effects on pathogens, ultimately reducing the infectivity of the virus. Global Plasma Solutions' needle-tipped bipolar ionization is ozone-free and is the only type in its category to pass the RCTA DO-160 standard for aircraft. Traditional bipolar ionization systems produce harmful ozone as a byproduct.

The company has a presence in Latin America in countries such as Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, in addition to the Caribbean.
