International. ASHRAE announces that applications for the new Certified HVAC Designer (CHD) certification are now open. Computer tests open worldwide on June 3.
"For a long time, the certification committee suspected that an HVAC Designer certification would serve the needs of members, but data from the 'Industry Needs' survey emphasized how much need and demand there is," said Mark Fly, PE, director of the Examination Subcommittee. "Launching a new certification program is a commitment, but we are confident that this is an investment that ASHRAE members and their employees will benefit from."
The CHD exam plan and eligibility requirements, which have been approved by the ASHRAE Certification Committee, can be found in the CHD Candidate Guide.
The Certified HVAC Designer (CHD) certification validates the competence of the HVAC Designer, who works under the responsibility of an engineer, to design HVAC systems that meet construction/project requirements, including:
- Load calculations
- Equipment selection and sizing
- Design of rooms for mechanical equipment
- Duct and pipe design
- Structure for the development of HVAC plans for permits and construction
The exam follows a 2018 industry-level work analysis study with data that was collected from more than 1,200 respondents from more than 60 countries. The CHD app is currently open with a practice exam to be launched on May 1.
