Trane Received Awards for Three Outstanding HVAC Projects in Brazil

Brazil. Trane was considered the main manufacturer in three winning works in the 25th SMACNA Brazil Highlights of the Year Award. (SMACNA), an entity representing 1,834 companies in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) sector in the United States, Canada, Australia and Brazil. The award recognizes outstanding projects in areas such as energy efficiency, environmental awareness and technical challenges.

In this 2018 edition, Trane stood out in the New Construction category, in the areas of Comfort and Industry. The works of ParkShopping Canoas, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and the Aqwa Corporate Building, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, were awarded in the New Construction / Comfort category. The work ADATA Integration Brazil S.A, in the state of São Paulo, was awarded in the New / Industrial Construction category. Below is a summary of the winning works:

- Inspired by The Nordic culture, the ParkShopping Canoas is one of the largest and most modern ventures in the southern region of Brazil. With more than 130 thousand square meters of built area, the mall has plenty of natural lighting and several photovoltaic trees. To ensure energy efficiency throughout the venture, installer Prodac Air Conditioning opted for Trane HVAC systems to ensure a cooling of 2,730 RT.

In this work, Trane's main challenge was to provide high-efficiency liquid chiller units with variable frequency drive and a large number of fancoils that met the work schedule and the rigid demands of the project, which sought a "pre-certification" LEED ("Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design"), recognizing the high level of sustainability of entrepreneurship.

- The Aqwa Corporate Star Center Solutions building was built with the concept of green buildings and has the international LEED certification at the Gold level. The work is a Class A corporate complex, signed by Foster + Partners and developed with the global experience of Tishman Speyer. Currently, the project, with 19 floors, two towers and 141,000 square meters of local spaces, is considered one of the most beautiful and sustainable corporate offices in Rio de Janeiro.

To guarantee the air conditioning of the premises, the company Star Center Soluciones en Climatización, responsible for the installation of the HVAC systems of the work, opted for a central air conditioning system of indirect expansion, with condensation to water, in the concept of arrangement Series Counterflow and capacity of 3,200 TR. In the Ice Water Plant (CAG) four water-cooled chillers were installed, model CVHF Con AFD (USA), with centrifugal compressors controlled by frequency inverters, which allow the modulation of the speed of the electric motors of the compressor between 10% and 100%, bringing to the system great economy of energy consumption. Six cooling towers, ice water pumps and condensation pumps were also installed to meet the needs of the system.

- In the industrial category, the chosen work was by ADATA Integration Brazil, a Taiwanese manufacture that manufactures high-level memory, controllers and digital storage solutions. The first Integrated Circuit Encapsulation plant in Latin America is located in the Municipality of Santo Antonio de Posse, in São Paulo.

The air conditioning system has three chillers with Condensation of Trane RTHD water to air condition the administrative and production areas, being 2 operators and 1 reserve. The total capacity is 954 TR, 2 operators and 1 reserve. In addition to the 3 primary circulation pumps, 10 secondary circulation pumps and 3 condensation pumps, 3 Cooling Towers manufactured with centrifugal fan and driven by frequency inverter stand out, which allows a low noise level and operational economy. This work required ISO certifications for the production areas, containing areas classified IS0 5, IS0 6 and ISO 7.

Since 1993, SMACNA Brasil has won the Highlights of the Year Award, consecrating, at the national level, the technical merits of the thermo-environmental engineering works of the previous year, those that most met requirements for environmental preservation and energy efficiency. The award distinguishes the end user (customer), the thermal engineering company (installer), the main manufacturer and the market players responsible for the implementation of the air conditioning /air treatment systems in the projects.
