Ziehl-Abegg fans in cultural centre project

International. At an event center in southern Germany called the Carmen Würth Forum, Ziehl-Abegg's highly silent bionic fans were installed, which move 99,000 cubic meters of air per hour.

The great acoustics in the Reinhold Würth room are due to the walnut wood from France that was used for the cladding panels. Such panels are perfectly adapted to each other. While some absorb undesirable vibrations, others are smooth surface and transmit sound. Special acoustic chairs were installed that absorb sound when unoccupied.

It is possible to perform concerts without an amplifier. The room is suitable for both soloists and orchestras. Even when the room is fully filled, resonance times are within the ideal range.

The requirements regarding climate engineering are clear: to guarantee optimal air conditioning and ventilation with the least possible noise generation. For this reason, Ziehl-Abegg fans work in the basement whose design is based on knowledge related to nature. Peter Fenkl, Chairman of the Board of Management of Ziehl-Abegg, underlines: "It is a great satisfaction to be able to contribute to the unrivalled acoustic quality of the Reinhold Würth room with our efficient and extremely quiet bionic fans."

In its design, the Ziehl-Abegg development team has applied some of the characteristics of the owl and humpback whale. "We use positive characteristics that nature has optimized over thousands of years," Fenkl says. This type of fan is also used in the ventilation of the Great Hall, which impresses, both for its acoustic variability and for its versatility.

The large event hall is designed to accommodate up to 2,500 people, the chamber music concert hall has a capacity for around 600 people. The Würth Group invested sixty million euros to create optimal conditions for the maximum enjoyment of culture. The inauguration took place in the summer of 2017.

Behind the curtain, for the chamber music room, two radial fans (ZAbluefin) with a diameter of 710 millimeters that move 29,000 cubic meters of air per hour work in the basement. With this constellation, the sound pressure in the inlet air duct was reduced by 50% to 58.1 dB (A). On the ceiling is the ventilation installation for the large event hall. Two radial fans (ZAbluefin, 1,000 mm) are also used there, providing 70,000 cubic meters of fresh air per hour.
