Organic Christmas: Recycled Birth Made of Garbage

In Un Blog Verde we have given ourselves the task of creating with the recycling and reuse of waste to reduce our consumption and save energy this Christmas. That's why we created a recycled birth made with garbage.

The only non-reused materials we used were staples, glue, down and clear adhesive tape, everything else was materials salvaged from the trash, such as snack wraps, drinkable yogurt containers, magazines, paper, cardboard, and PET.

nacimiento con materiales reciclados

To make your birth recycled you need the following:

- Publicidad -

7 containers of yogurt to drink, clean and dry
1 magazine
1 black down
1 red down
Staples and stapler
Transparent adhesive tape
Glue
Snack wraps, cookies, pasta, etc. What you can rescue from the trash, everything clean and dry
2 bottles of PET 2 liters
8 soda screw caps
Cardboard

Remember that everything must be rescued, do not buy products just to make the birth.

To make the figures you must first place a screw cap on each yogurt container as if it were the head, fix it with adhesive tape on each of the containers (you can see the procedure in the photo gallery at the end of the article). You will have a screw cap left over that will be that of the baby Jesus that we will do later with the PET.

Cut out 8 cardboard circles that will be the faces of the characters of the recycled birth, then cut 8 circles of the same size as the cardboard ones of the magazine sheets, looking for the paper to be the color you want the skin of the characters to be (Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, Melchior Gaspar, Baltazar, Pastor and Shepherdess, and the Child Jesus).

Glue the paper circles to the cardboard circles with the glue and draw the eyes, nose and mouth with the down, then glue the faces to the screw cap heads.

Cut out the wrappings so that they are like sheets and select the colors you will use for each character, for example traditionally the Virgin is dressed in white and blue, San José in gray and green, the three wise men in metallic and bright colors and the poplars in colors such as pink and yellow.

Start by wrapping the containers with a kind of skirt or tunic that covers the body, then place another piece that will be like the blouse, go gluing everything with the help of adhesive tape.
Then place a kind of rebozos or veils to each character with the help of the tape and the stapler. Add decorative details such as bands, belts, the crowns of kings, all made with the pedacería of wraps.

To make the baby Jesus cut the base of the PET bottles. Then cut out the middle part of one of them. Then cut it into 3 thinner strips and roll them to make a small tube (as seen in the photos). Glue the last screw cap to that tube, stick his face and make the child's coat with white or light blue wraps.

To make the manger you will need the PET bottle that is more complete and cut an arc (as seen in the photos) to put the baby. Line the manger with wraps in brown tones.

You can make sheep with the leftovers of PET and a little white stamen like those in the photos.

Now it's just a matter of you accommodating your birth and celebrating an ecological Christmas.  If you dare to do so send us your photos, we would love to know how it turned out.
