Revilla believes that the development of renewable energies opens a "great opportunity" for the automotive sector

The president of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, said on Saturday that the development of renewable energies and knowledge opens a "great opportunity" for the automotive sector, which is one of the most affected by the current economic crisis.

For Revilla, the car will continue to have "great potential" 20 years from now because it is an "essential" tool. Despite being a "fickle" sector, which varies depending on the economic situation of the moment, the head of the Executive considers that the electric car industry still has a lot of room for progress, especially in relation to autonomy.

"If we have managed years ago to go to the moon without using oil, moving a car has to be easier," he said.

In his opinion, the model of renewable energies plus knowledge is the one towards which the world must advance to combat the effects of climate change and, particularly in Spain, reduce the bill of 40,000 million euros that oil and gas represent per year to allocate it to education, health and research.

In this sense, he highlighted the commitment that the Government of Cantabria is making for R + D + i and has cited some examples such as the Wind Plan, the tidal energy buoys or offshore wind farms.

Miguel Ángel Revilla made these statements during the inauguration of the annual congress of the CECAUTO Company, which is being held for the first time in the Community and brings together about 180 entrepreneurs from the automotive components sector at the Santander Exhibition and Congress Palace.

After thanking the company for choosing Cantabria as the venue for the meeting and welcoming the participants, the president wished them a pleasant stay in the region and sent a message of encouragement to the sector to continue working and overcome the crisis as soon as possible.

Revilla was accompanied at the event by the president of the group, Antonio Pujadó; the general director, Jesús Lucas; the president of the National Association of Dealers of Equipment, Spare Parts, Tires and Accessories for Automobiles (ANCERA), Miguel Ángel Cuerno; the Director of Communication and Marketing of the Spanish Federation of Professional Automotive Entrepreneurs (CONEPA), Nuria Álvarez, and the manager of Auto Recambios Cavadas S. L., Segundo Cavadas, representing the Cantabrian partners.

CECAUTO GROUP

CECAUTO is the most important group in the sector in Spain in terms of turnover. It currently has more than 75,000 square meters of storage and about 400 associates, which serve more than 10,000 workshops.

The meeting will address, among other topics, the latest developments in spare parts and, more in depth, the recently released Car Repair Regulation, EU 461/2010. (EUROPA PRESS)
