Friends of Glass has participated in the third World Congress on Climate Change and Wine held on April 13 and 14 in Marbella (Malaga, Spain) where the future of the wine sector in the current situation of climate change was discussed. The presence of Friends of Glass at the congress has allowed to share the idea that the glass bottle is the ideal container for the environment and for wine: glass bottles are ecological containers that come from natural raw materials and recyclable 100% infinite times; they are totally inert and do not give any substance to their content, so the quality and taste of the wine are perfectly preserved.
With the aim of promoting glass containers and their recycling, Friends of Glass distributed to attendees, congressmen and winemakers, ecological bags adapted to carry inside up to 6 bottles, thus encouraging the consumption of products in glass bottles and their transport to recycling points.
It cannot be forgotten that with each ton of glass that is recycled, there is a saving of 1,200 Kg of raw materials, 130 Kg of oil and around 100 Kg of greenhouse gases are no longer emitted.
Ángeles Muñoz, mayor of Marbella, and Pancho Campo, master of wine and organizer of the congress, greeted the more than 300 congressmen and 168 wineries from 40 countries that have gathered at the Palacio de Congresos in the city of Malaga that reached a media impact of the event covered by a hundred journalists.
The congress was attended by the former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Kofi Annan, who has urged today's young people to become aware of climate change and participate in the fight against this phenomenon whose progress is altering the environmental patterns of the Earth.
The many winemakers, journalists and specialists in ecology and viticulture who passed through the Friends of Glass stand expressed their opinion that glass is absolutely indispensable for the world of wine, forming with it an indissoluble couple that guarantees its conservation and evolution and enhances its image.
