The World's Largest Solar Boat Crosses the Atlantic

The Turanor Planet Solar, the world's largest solar ship, has successfully completed the first part of its round-the-world voyage, its transatlantic crossing from Monaco to Miami. The boat powered by thousands of photovoltaic cells left Monaco on September 27 and arrived in Miami a few days ago, on November 28.

At 31 meters long and 15 meters wide, the Turanor PlanetSolar is the largest solar-powered ship in the world. The vessel works entirely with renewable energies, with its photovoltaic cells with an incredible 22% efficiency. These are the most efficient solar cells available on the market, and they cover an area of 500 square meters. The energy generated is used to drive two electric motors giving the boat a top speed of 14 knots.

Something remarkable is that thanks to its large catchment area, the boat can sail for 3 days without receiving direct sun, when you have energy to spare, it is stored in state-of-the-art lithium batteries.

To date, the scoping ship is underway from Miami to Cancun, where it will participate in activities organized by the Swiss government. In Un Blog Verde we are doing everything possible to get to know the boat and interview the crew, so I recommend you to be attentive.
