Puerto Rico. For the first time a hotel of the Sheraton chain, and for the first time a Puerto Rican hotel, achieves the highest distinction in terms of certifications with an environmental focus on buildings.This is the LEED certification, the highest distinction in the category of recognitions for sustainable and green design and operation buildings, which was delivered to the Caribbean hotel Sheraton Puerto Rico & Casino 15 months after its official opening.
"With this recognition, the property ranks as the first hotel in Puerto Rico and the entire Sheraton hotel chain in the world to receive such a distinction," said Hermand Méndez, vice president of Interlink Group, the developer of the project.
According to Méndez, after a demanding period of tests and revisions, it was concluded that the hotel has achieved considerable energy savings.
The building used laminated glass to repel heat, insulation on the ceilings, paints, carpets, glues and materials free of contaminants, and efficient and intelligently controlled lighting and air conditioning systems.
