Spain. Due to the intense heat that Spaniards are experiencing this year, the business of air conditioning systems rose by 24% during the first five months of 2010, when compared to those carried out in the same period in 2009. These data were presented in the report of the global market research agency GfK.Alberto Girón, head of white goods at GfK, explained that the sales figures for April, as well as the high temperatures for July, allow us to foresee the recovery of the market and the upward trend that has been maintained since the market fell two years ago. However, he mentioned that June sales should be expected, which are believed to be not so positive.
This 2010 sales are linked to more energy-efficient equipment, although between January and March the value of the devices sold fell 0.9%, compared to the same months of 2009.
73% of the items sold in the first five months of 2010 correspond to the systems of the inverter category, which save between 25 and 30% of energy and whose sales have increased 5.5% compared to 2009.
Demand for energy-efficient products denotes a growth in consumer preferences. In May 2010, business by these efficient teams accounted for 86%.
