Peru. With a percentage of 8%, the Inca country occupies in the world the third place in copper production after Chile (35.6%) and the United States (8.3%).In Peru the largest production is found in Arequipa, Moquegua, Tacna and Cusco, where they reach 61% of the exploitation of the red metal. According to the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (Snmpe), Arequipa is the second region that generates the most copper, with a production of 315,000 metric tons in the last 12 months, and the first is Ancash, with 354,000 metric tons.
However, in August the generation of the metal decreased 0.45% to 107,717 tons due to the non-production of the Antamina Company in its Antamina 1 concession, as well as the low production of Southern Copper in its Simarrona concession, which decreased by 74% compared to the same month of 2008.
