USA. President George W. Bush invited some fifteen countries around the world to a conference on climate change in Washington on September 27 and 28, a call that accentuates the change in the U.S. government's policy on reducing greenhouse gases. "The United States is committed to working with the other major economies to agree on a detailed contribution and achieve a new global framework by the end of 2008, contributing to an international agreement under the United Nations (UN) Convention on Climate Change in 2009," Bush said in his invitation.
The call includes representatives from both industrialized and developing countries, and aims to adopt long-term strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which are responsible for global warming. Only two Latin American countries will participate in the meeting: Brazil and Mexico.
