United States. ASHRAE officially unveiled its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, with the goal of driving a healthier, more sustainable, and resilient built environment. The roadmap focuses on global leadership in indoor environmental quality (IEQ), decarbonization and professional development, key pillars to address current and future climate challenges.
The plan is structured around three main goals: leading in IEQ, decarbonisation and resilience through standards and partnerships; generate real impact with strategies focused on key audiences; and expanding access to knowledge by eliminating structural, financial and communication barriers.
"Our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan seeks to promote buildings that truly support human well-being," said Bill McQuade, P.E., CDP, ASHRAE Fellow, LEED AP, ASHRAE president for 2025–26. "This plan ensures that ASHRAE's work translates into tangible benefits, such as cleaner air, safer indoor spaces, and communities better prepared to face a changing climate."
Key initiatives of the plan include:
- Healthy, sustainable and resilient communities: accelerated development of standards, guidelines and best practices that improve indoor air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Empowered workforce: educational and training programs to close the technical skills gap globally.
- Organizational agility: investment in digital transformation and communication platforms for a more efficient operation.
- Emerging technologies: driving the adoption of innovations such as artificial intelligence and smart building technologies.
Research, AI, and Global Network: Key Enablers
The plan also identifies three fundamental elements for its execution: a solid foundation of unbiased research, the strategic use of artificial intelligence, and the strengthening of a diverse and collaborative global network.
Implementation of the plan is already underway, and ASHRAE will continue to report on concrete progress aligned with these strategic priorities.
