Smart refrigeration gains ground in the food industry

International. Danfoss and Microsoft announced the expansion of their strategic collaboration, established in 2019, with the aim of accelerating the development and implementation of solutions based on artificial intelligence and cloud technology for the food sector.

The alliance seeks to help the industry optimize energy consumption, reduce food waste and reduce emissions.

One of the main joint developments is Danfoss Alsense, a cloud-based monitoring and management solution, designed specifically for grocery businesses such as supermarkets. The platform enables 24/7 monitoring of refrigeration systems, offering real-time information to minimize downtime, optimize performance, reduce waste, and lower operating costs.

Lars G. Andersen, managing director of 12 Coop stores in Denmark, highlighted the benefits of this tool: "Alsense makes my grocery business more efficient. 24/7 monitoring is our priority, it gives me peace of mind and saves stores a lot of money by detecting and preventing incidents before they escalate. It allows me to identify which store is leaking coolant. Without this solution, I wouldn't be able to manage my Coop 365 stores efficiently."

With Danfoss' expertise in energy-efficient technologies and Microsoft's leadership in artificial intelligence and cloud, both companies are driving a new generation of sustainable solutions for food retail.

"By deepening our collaboration with Microsoft, we are taking an important step towards making sustainable solutions more accessible and impactful for our customers. Together, we can accelerate the global transition to a low-carbon future," said Natalie Schnippering, Vice President Digital Services at Danfoss Climate Solutions.

Artificial intelligence thus becomes a key enabler for advancing climate goals. The integration of Microsoft technology will enable Alsense to be more accessible and smarter, facilitating the adoption of sustainable solutions and removing barriers to entry for retailers.

Matt Walsh, Microsoft's Director of Industry Consulting, said: "The collaboration with Danfoss demonstrates the transformative power of AI for a sustainable future. By leveraging AI to optimize refrigeration systems, we help food retailers minimize their environmental impact. We are excited to be at the forefront of this change, powering businesses with this transformative technology."

The expansion of this alliance reinforces both companies' commitment to sustainable innovation and the transition to more efficient and environmentally friendly operations.
