Daikin reduced emissions of 4.05 million tons of CO2 in its products

Daikin redujo emisiones de 4.05 millones de toneladas de CO2 en sus productos

International. This is indicated by Daikin Industries in its 2024 Sustainability Report, which reveals key progress in its long-term environmental goals and its transition to a greener economy.

"Approximately 1.1 billion people in the world are at risk of losing their lives to extreme heat and the demand for air conditioners is projected to increase in the future. Air conditioning has a significant impact on the environment due to its high electricity consumption. In view of this, we believe that meeting society's needs for air conditioning solutions and contributing to its decarbonization is the Group's most important social mission," said Masanori Togawa, Chairman and CEO of Daikin Industries, Ltd.

Key points of the report

  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction: The company has achieved a 17% reduction in its net greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle of its products compared to 2019 levels. Daikin continues with the goal of reaching 30% fewer emissions by 2025, 50% by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
  • Carbon Neutrality by 2030: At its Sakai-Rinkai plant, Daikin achieved carbon neutrality in 2023, a milestone toward its goal of achieving net-zero emissions at all its plants by 2030, excluding chemical plants.
  • Optimisation of energy efficiency: with the adoption of heat pump technology and low-potential refrigerants of
Global Temperature Saving (GWP), Daikin has managed to reduce CO2 emissions from its products in use by 4.05 million tons of CO2.
  • Refrigerant eco-cycle: To date, the company has managed to recover more than 49% of refrigerants on the market, representing a step towards a circular economy and a reduction in global environmental impact.
  • Biodiversity protection: Daikin is committed to the conservation of 11 million hectares of forests around the world, working in collaboration with non-governmental organizations and local governments. This initiative has contributed to the reduction of 7 million tons of CO2 through reforestation and the preservation of biodiversity.

Daikin has allocated more than 2,749 million dollars of investment for the period from 2023 to 2025, to develop highly energy-efficient products and solutions. This investment also seeks to expand the company's presence in emerging markets
where the demand for air conditioning is booming and support sustainable growth.
