USA USA The AHRI reported further declines in sales of air conditioners and air heat pumps, down 21% from February 2008. This year, combined shipments totaled 489,863, 27% less than in the first two months of 2008. By equipment, sales of heat pumps were down 18% from February of the previous year, and the drop in the year was 23% compared to the previous year. Air and water heaters continue to fall, compared to February 2008 and the first two months of the same year, with -5.4% in fuel heaters, and -21.2% in gas systems, with -28.5% in the two-month period for electrical systems. Water heaters showed decreases of 11.2% and 6.4% for electrical and gas systems, respectively, while the fall in the two-month period was 4% for the former and 9.4% for the latter, with a slightly more pronounced drop in commercial versions of these equipment: 6.3% for gas systems, and 16.6% for electric vehicles.
