Mexico. In an important step towards sustainability in the retail sector, Weston announced the opening of the first store in Mexico equipped with an eco-friendly waterloop refrigeration system.
Located in the state of Jalisco, this facility represents a significant advance in the implementation of cleaner and more efficient technologies in the country.
The waterloop system uses a water circuit to absorb heat from the cooling equipment through plate exchangers, expelling it to the outside through a drycooler. By using natural refrigerant R290 and incorporating a pumping station, the store is able to drastically reduce refrigerant charging, simplify installation and improve thermal comfort for customers.
Weston was responsible for the entire turnkey installation process, which included the assembly, start-up and stabilization of the system. Among the equipment installed are:
- Argos murals for meat, fruit and vegetables, with full-vision doors that improve the visibility of the products.
- Walk-in coolers equipped with high-efficiency Weston evaporators.
- Charcuterie display cases with curved glass.
- Zeus semi-murals for self-service pastries.
- Differential temperature hot maintainers for foods such as chicken and bread.
The store is also committed to renewable energy with the installation of photovoltaic panels on its roof, covering a large part of its energy needs. With this initiative and the use of natural refrigerants, it is possible to:
- Reduce traditional refrigerant charging by 90%.
- Use gases that do not damage the ozone layer and are 1,300 times more environmentally friendly than others on the market.
- Save up to 30% of energy thanks to refrigerated equipment with doors.
- Equivalent to the planting of 330 trees in the reduction of CO₂ emissions.
The opening of this store marks a milestone for Mexico, showing that it is possible to develop points of sale that combine energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, convenience for customers and an impeccable display of products.
