United States. Emerson announced, at IIAR in Long Beach, California, the expansion of its product portfolio, with its first Vilter transcritical CO2 screw compressor unit.
The new Vilter transcritical CO2 compressor has been developed, according to the company "in response to the growing industry demand for sustainable, safe and reliable CO2 refrigeration technologies", and as a complement to its Vilter subcritical CO2 compressor, to understand a complete transcritical CO2 compression solution.
Importantly, the subcritical CO2 compressor is already available for sale, while the transcritical CO2 compressor will be available for sale later this year. In addition, this new portfolio is designed to respond to industry demand for industrial-grade CO2 refrigeration solutions.
Gary Chafee, manager of CO2 industrial solutions and business development for Emerson's Climate Technologies, commented, "Building on our legacy of innovation, we have designed the industry's first transcritical CO2 screw compressor, designed for heavy-duty industrial requirements and rated for transcritical CO2 pressures."
In addition, the executive explained that Vilter's new transcritical CO2 compressor is based on proven single-screw compression technology and features a complete solution, which "includes an integrated controller, a suction valve/filter, an inverter motor and an oil management system. In addition, the transcritical CO2 compressor is built for maximum flexibility, capable of scaling from one-, two- and three-compressor configurations to capacity requirements, all while utilizing the same oil management system and controller."
Another important fact is that this new compressor is designed for the high stage of a transcritical CO2 system, so it is designed and classified to withstand high pressures and will be available in seven displacements with a power range of 100 to 800 horsepower per compressor, up to 1600 HP in dual configuration and 2400 in tri configuration.
The subcritical CO2 compressor is designed for the low side of transcritical or cascade CO2 systems and is available in 11 displacements with a power range of 100 to 800 horsepower per compressor.
