Carrier introduced new line of thermostats with BACnet

International. Carrier introduced the new ComfortVuTM BACnet thermostats, aimed at building owners and operators who can now help maximize occupant comfort and increase the energy efficiency of their facilities.

These thermostats offer control of a building's heating and cooling equipment from inside a facility, or from any BACnet-based building management system (BMS), including Carrier's powerful i-Vu building automation system.

The new BACnet wall thermostats are designed to work with commercial HVAC equipment, including roof units, heat pumps, fan coils and heaters. On-board detection options include temperature, humidity and motion detection, and built-in DIP switches make it easy to set up equipment type and operation sequence.

Available in two versions, Standard and Plus, BACnet thermostats feature large backlit LCD screens and intuitive controls (pushbuttons on standard, touchscreen interface on Plus), which put occupants in direct control of their comfort. An integrated time clock and a 7-day programmable calendar allow BACnet thermostats to operate independently or on a BACnet MS/TP network. Thermostat buttons and touchscreens can be locked when the BMS is in control to limit occupant interaction and set point settings.

The new BACnet thermostats also offer online management tools when integrated with Carrier's i-Vu building automation system. Charts, trends, dashboards, and alarms give operators additional information about how their HVAC equipment is performing, either on-site or remotely from any web-enabled device.

The new BACnet thermostats also offer many energy-efficient features, while allowing operators to better manage the energy use of their buildings. Features include:

  • Flexible 7-day programming via thermostat;
  • Cancellations of locker and occupancy through BACnet BMS;
  • Large, easy-to-read temperature displays on the thermostat including set-point adjustment, fan speed control, and heating/cooling mode control;
  • Humidity control; Economizer control compatible with Title 24 and FDD of the IECC2015 economizer when connected to a BMS that has been programmed to detect economizer failures;
  • Onboard I/O to connect remote temperature sensors, door/window switches, and other devices to invoke additional energy-saving control strategies.
