Inflation is deflating us

These days, the world is "enjoying" an inflationary trend that is affecting most emerging markets in the world. Although we are in the midst of a global credit crunch, according to analysts the Latin economy has remained firm in this scenario, thanks to, among other things, the dependence that these markets have on raw materials, which has continued to report important benefits.

However, victory cannot be sung and the monetary authorities of each country must do the same to prevent this dream moment that is currently being lived from ending abruptly with a span of noses. Although there is greater capital capture, as a result of the unusual prices of crude oil and other minerals such as copper and gold, the truth is that prices are also increasing in almost all countries in the region (in Argentina and Venezuela there is unofficial talk of inflations of 20 and 15%, respectively).

Such a situation can affect us in several ways; first, construction has experienced a contraction in several nations in the region. For example, in Colombia, in the first quarter it contracted by more than 5% and this caused the growth rate of this nation to fall significantly, which reached just over 4% when its expectation was more than 8%. This may mean lower consumption of air conditioning solutions and controls in one of the markets that was offering the best prospects.

But also refrigeration can face an unpleasant panorama in the sense that food is increasing in price and this could mean fewer products to refrigerate; other projections have spoken of rising prices for refrigeration equipment, and although the dollar has devalued in most countries, the price of oil inflicts harsh punishment for freight.

But every crisis brings with it an opportunity. Rising energy prices remain the best market opportunity to market energy-efficient air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. The idea is that it is better to become familiar with the environment we are entering so that we can take the shock measures in time and refine the contingency plans.
