NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Spain. The University of Burgos developed a novel system for storing energy by latent heat. The project is entitled "Intelligent air conditioning system with latent heat thermal energy storage (SIECaL)".

International. Scientists at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, have developed a quick way to find the exact source of Legionella disease in order to prevent new infections. The new process takes approximately 35 minutes.

International. Renewables had the highest growth rate of any energy source in 2017 and accounted for about a quarter of the growth in global energy demand last year.

United States. The University of Hawai'i (UH) announced that its Maui College campus will soon be among the first in the nation to generate 100 percent of its energy from on-site solar photovoltaic (PV) systems along with battery storage. The project is part of a partnership with Johnson Controls and Pacific Current that will also allow four UH community college campuses in O'ahu to significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption.

United States. Purdue University will lead a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) project to develop sensors aimed at reducing the cost and environmental impact of operating a building's heating, air conditioning and ventilation system.
