Solstice N71, the Honeywell refrigerant that reduces the carbon footprint

Solstice N71 refrigerante de Honeywell

United States. Honeywell announced its new Solstice N71 refrigerant, which is non-flammable HFO-based and does not deplete the ozone layer. The supermarket chain Food City will be the first to install this solution in its store in Kodak, Tennessee.

Honeywell assures that this refrigerant "will help increase energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impact." Notably, the company expects to expand its Solstice N71 offering to other customers around the world in the near future.

Importantly, this Honeywell refrigerant is non-flammable and has a low global warming potential (GWP) as it uses hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) technology. This solution is optimized for use in supermarkets, refrigeration chambers, industrial process refrigeration, ice rinks, convenience stores and pharmacies.

Another relevant fact is that Honeywell, in collaboration with Hussmann, Emerson and Danfoss, supported Food City with the installation of the refrigerant.

"With the Solstice N71 in operation, customers will have access to fresh beverages thanks to refrigerant technology that improves energy efficiency, reduces environmental impact and keeps people safer," said José Fernandes, president of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies (PMT) for Latin America. "Solstice N71 is a breakthrough for the refrigeration industry that is helping our customers accelerate their refrigeration goals. environmental transformation without sacrificing performance."

In detail the Solstice N71 "is the supermarket industry's first and only non-flammable HFO refrigerant blend with a GWP of less than 150 for new equipment in medium temperature applications."

The solution enables medium-temperature commercial refrigeration systems to deliver a 30% improvement in energy efficiency compared to carbon dioxide (CO2)-based systems and 13% compared to R-404A. "It can be used in a variety of system architectures and requires no special skills to maintain, offering a lower total cost of ownership."

This refrigerant does not operate at high pressures, reducing the risk of system failures and related unexpected expenses.

This solution will help Food City and other convenience chains to come, to comply with regulations that stipulate the gradual reduction of production and consumption of high GWP hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants, for the benefit of the environment and responsible consumption.

Honeywell has invested more than a billion dollars in research, development and new capabilities for its Solstice technology, since more than a decade ago the company anticipated the need for lower GWP solutions to combat climate change.

Moreover, the use of Solstice products, according to Honeywell, has helped prevent the potential release equivalent to more than 295 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is equivalent to eliminating emissions from more than 62 million cars.
