Humiclima renewed the ACS and HVAC systems of the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum resort

Mexico. Humiclima was in charge of integrating new ACS and HVAC systems in Bahia Principe Grand Tulum, an establishment with around 700 rooms, which after more than 20 years of operation needed a change and improve its energy efficiency.

This comprehensive reform carried out to the renowned hotel, which is located specifically in Cayo Levantado, is underway since this month (July 2022), supported by the facilities made by Humiclima, with scope in all spaces of the establishment.

Project challenges
The great challenge that Humiclima had to face for this installation was that it had to redesign and reform all the cold and heat production systems, including the domestic hot water (DHW) and HVAC systems. This is because, in addition to having obsolete equipment that had a low performance, all these were isolated by buildings, as groupings by villas, which decanted in problems of operation and service.

In the same way, the system with which they found themselves generated heat by "Joule effect" which does not offer the best performance in terms of energy efficiency, which was precisely one of the needs of the client.

In addition to this, other requests of the project were the guarantee of energy supply at a lower cost than it had, reduction of the prices of the operation and of the energy.

Humiclima also faced environmental challenges, as it had to pay for its proposed reduction of environmental impact, while maintaining the comfort of the facilities.

Solution presented
Humiclima designed and installed a centralized plant, which improved energy efficiency, while simplifying operation and maintenance services.

This silver, in addition to having more efficient equipment, has energy recovery systems for "free" heat generation, which achieved a reduction between 10-20% of the hotel's electricity bill.

The facilities and equipment that Humiclima included in its installation are: Aire Agua equipment, fancoils units in room areas, handlers in the restaurant area, systems with inter accumulators for the supply of DHW and electrical resistances for the production of DHW (the latter in wardrobes and plant cleaning rooms).

In that sense, and as Humiclima indicates, "the technical proposal included a preliminary design to facilitate assembly, optimization of spaces and detection of interference. All this on the basis of a 3D modeling".

Finally, the great achievements of this intervention, which improved the comfort and air conditioning of the Bahia Principe Grand Tulum resort, are the effective saving of energy from the moment of starting the operation of the new system, therefore a reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases, the fulfillment of the reduction of costs for energy and operation in the long term (which was one of the client's demands), as well as the possibility of planning in advance of corrective costs.
