Air pollution in the home can be five times higher than outside

International.  Trane Mexico offers a series of recommendations on indoor pollution in homes, which can be five times greater than outdoor pollution.

Are you concerned about the quality of the air you breathe in your home? Do you know that there are signs that tell us that the air your family breathes is not adequate and help you discover what particles are floating in the environment?

Indoor pollution, that is, that generated in the home is five times greater than that of the outside; That is why it is important that certain measures are taken within the home to reduce pollutant emissions and improve the quality of the air your family breathes.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that nine out of ten people breathe unhealthy air both outside and inside the house.

We've all felt the effects of poor air quality. Recently, the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAME), declared Phase 1 of environmental contingency for ozone in the Valley of Mexico, due to meteorological conditions such as a high pressure system that generates atmospheric stability, weak wind and clear sky which causes a stagnation of pollutants that prevent their dispersion.

Actions such as car sharing, keeping it in good condition, using alternative means such as cycling and walking short distances are measures to mitigate outdoor pollution. But what about our homes?, how do we reduce the pollutants that are generated inside?

According to data recorded in the latest National Survey on the Use of Time prepared by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) and the National Institute of Women (Inmujeres), women spend 28.8 hours a week performing care activities inside the home, which is equivalent to about 810 hours a month. If we add to this time the time that a person normally spends sleeping throughout his life that is 25 to 28 years, we would have enough reasons to take care of the quality of the air we breathe inside our house.

Trane shares a series of recommendations on what factors and measures to consider to know if the quality of the air you breathe in your home is adequate.

Signs that indicate that you should check the quality of the air you breathe in your home:
If you have symptoms such as chronic allergies and asthma, frequent headaches, bronchitis or colds that last an unusually long time, these are signs that your body may be feeling the effects of pollutants. These airborne irritants could be anything from gas to pet dander to mold that can't even be seen.

Due to poor air quality, asthma is a disease that is on the rise and in Mexico 7.8% of the population suffers from it, according to the Ministry of Health. Places such as the State of Mexico, Monterrey, Veracruz and Mexico City are the ones that present the worst levels in terms of air quality, according to the Diagnosis of the Right to a Healthy Environment, prepared by the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy, CONEVAL.

In addition to this, sometimes, the contaminants inside can be extreme, such as hazardous chemicals and asbestos. If you notice severe symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, rash, fever, chills, fatigue, vomiting or shortness of breath, you definitely need to have the air quality of your home analyzed and for this, there are tests and devices that allow you to measure the levels of harmful particles.

Contaminants that may exist in the home

• Coatings or finishes.
• Lead-based paint.
• Dust particles and other allergens.
• Smoke-related air pollution.
• Flavorings, candles and incense.
• Household cleaners.
• Combustion particles or gases.

An adequate ventilation and heating system in the home will help you dilute air pollutants and allow you to maintain the levels of humidity, temperature and comfort in your home.

"We have a wide range of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that save energy," says Jaime Jiménez, Ceo of Trane Mexico and adds: "All these equipment have services and support of parts."

The Clean Effects System filters up to 99.98% of all allergens suspended in the filtered air up to a size of .1 microns to ensure a cleaner and more comfortable home. It does not produce obstructions which ensures a remarkable efficiency over time. Delivers clean air at an index of 1200*.

If we consider that annually households generate 20 kilos of dust and that about 72 trillion allergens can enter a house daily, having a system that allows purifying the air is a good measure to promote the good health of our family.

*The clean air delivery rate is recognized by the FTC, EPA, and ANSI as a target medium for various cleaning technologies. For typical heating and cooling system of 3 tons for the whole house and as a stand-alone cleaning device.
