Ziehl-Abegg completes its range of EC motors

International. Engine manufacturer Ziehl-Abegg announced the entry into a new ec market segment with its latest engine size, completing its EC engine product range while accompanying it with new impeller designs.

The company ensures that the combination of both reduces the sound level and electricity consumption compared to the current market standard in this range. "The increased insulation of today's buildings increases the need for controlled ventilation," explained Ziehl-Abegg EC Product Manager Moritz Krämer in the face of the booming demand for residential ventilation. "That requires small fans that provide reliable operation on an ongoing basis for many years to come."

With the EC055 motor, Ziehl-Abegg can now also apply its expertise in building efficient electric motors in this area of application. Small EC fans can also be used in heat pumps, electronics racks or cooling, for example.

"When we talk about cooling in electronic applications, the focus is always on energy consumption while in residential applications we must also take into account the sound level," adds Krämer. On that basis, Ziehl-Abegg has designed a novel radial impeller for this type of application with a special design of backward-curved blades." This radial fan is the result of decades of experience in developing optimal blade geometries," explained the engineer. Of course, this new fan can be used in other applications than those described above.

Ziehl-Abegg says that with the EC055 it offers a product that combines higher performance and optimal sound characteristics with the standard dimensions in existing installations. Ziehl-Abegg EC motors are known generically as "ECblue".

EC motors are direct current external rotor motors equipped with permanent magnets. When the motor rotates, the electronics of the EC motor determine the position of the rotor, using this property for continuous control of the rotor. This control is known as switching, with the acronym EC referring to "Electronically Switched".
