UBV COP16 – Objectives of Mexico

Mexico will receive more than 20,000 delegates from 194 countries, including official, civil society and media representatives, offering them the optimal conditions to carry out their work during the two weeks that the climate change conference will last. As the host country, Mexico will seek:

Create the conditions for the parties to make decisions that contribute to advancing in the fight against climate change at the global level.

To reach a balanced package of concrete decisions that will lead to immediate action, that is as ambitious as possible and addresses both compliance with the framework convention and the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.

If so, these decisions will lay the foundations for the world to reach a binding agreement in the future, by creating a new paradigm of international cooperation in favor of the planet.

- Publicidad -

Promote issues of financing against climate change, such as the green fund, Mexico's proposal. Encourage the development and spread of green technologies. And create instruments for the conservation of forests and jungles that also help in the fight against poverty.

Promote the participation of all countries, particularly emerging economies, in global mitigation efforts and the construction of a low-carbon economy and thus close the north-south gap.
