United States. Belimo Americas' headquarters in Danbury, Connecticut, is commissioning an 877kW dc solar power generation system. The solar installation is one of the largest in Connecticut and will meet 25% of the building's electricity demand.
The project is another step in Belimo's mission to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions from commercial buildings around the world.
Belimo explains that it contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by incorporating the principles of the United Nations Global Compact into strategies, policies and procedures. To reduce CO2 emissions and increase the use of renewable energy, Belimo has installed the solar system to promote environmental protection and offset the electricity supplied by the grid.
The system is comprised of 2,192 high-performance solar modules and is expected to produce approximately 1.1 megawatt hours of electricity annually. By offsetting a portion of Belimo's energy needs with solar energy, 857 tons of greenhouse gas emissions will be avoided, which is equivalent to supplying power to approximately 100 homes in Connecticut annually.

This system will reduce the energy consumption and carbon footprint of our Danbury facility by a third. It represents the largest solar generation system installed at any of Belimo's facilities worldwide. This project with Dynamic Energy has been in the works for 18 months and moves Belimo further in the direction of our Sustainability Initiative in support of our Corporate Social Responsibility," said James Furlong, President of Belimo Americas.
Belimo's North American headquarters is LEED Gold certified and achieved 19 out of 19 points in the energy performance optimization model, projecting 48 percent in energy savings. With the installation of solar panels, Belimo can qualify for up to 8 LEED points in the Energy and Atmosphere (EA2) section and continues to contribute to reducing energy consumption and environmental impacts.
