SMA Solar Technology and Danfoss plan to create joint venture

International. SMA Solar Technology AG and Danfoss A/S announced their desire to launch a joint venture aimed at connecting various technical components to manage a better food retail experience, the joint energy management platform SMA ennexOS and Danfoss System Manager SM800 seeks to offer competitive advantages to supermarkets.

By doing so, supermarket operators will be able to use the integrated solution developed by both companies to sustainably reduce their operation, spend and optimize their carbon footprint. They would become a key component of the flexible energy system of the future and can generate new revenue streams for the supermarket. The first pilot project will begin shortly.

The joint venture formed by SMA and Danfoss aims to provide supermarket operators with a comprehensive solution that interconnects refrigeration and refrigeration technology, photovoltaics, energy storage technology and electric mobility. Intelligently managing loads and integrating the global system into the energy market, enabling supermarket operators to reduce their operating expenses, optimize their carbon footprint and significantly improve their long-term competitiveness. In addition, they will become a key component of the energy system of the future.

"Our expertise in photovoltaics, battery storage systems and energy management is a complement to refrigeration technology and its access to customers in retail to offer fresher food," said Dr. Eng. Jürgen Reinert, member of the Operations and Technology Board of SMA Solar Technology AG. "I am delighted that this jointly planned venture with Danfoss will allow us to further expand our strategic partnership with one of the leaders in the industry."

"The food retail segment has strategic importance and a playing field for innovation," said Jürgen Fischer, President of Danfoss Cooling. "Innovative cooling and heating technology products combined with photovoltaics, as well as charging and energy storage stations will be used in the supermarket of the future. Supermarkets will not only provide fresh produce, but also transform the public network, which will be more reliable, greener and more flexible. Danfoss and SMA are very well positioned to take advantage of this new market. The joint venture is planned to be headquartered in Hamburg, Germany."

SMA's new subsidiary, coneva GmbH, will cooperate with the Danfoss refrigeration segment to design a service tailored to the individual requirements of the food retail segment.

"SMA's energy management platform ennexOS is an ideal tool for optimizing the energy consumption of retailers using parameters such as electricity price update, outside temperature, solar irradiation and temporary grid requirements," explained Jochen Schneider, General Manager of coneva GmbH and added that "self-generated surplus electricity can be sold directly or stored in electricity and thermal storage systems. Integration into the energy market also allows us to ensure cost-effective energy supply, green energy, and even integrate charging stations."

The planned joint venture is likely to be subject to approval by competent antitrust authorities.
