World Refrigeration Day 2024 theme announced

Anuncian el tema del Día Mundial de la Refrigeración de 2024

International. The event, which will take place on June 26, has the global support of the HVAC industry, professional groups, scientific and engineering associations, as well as governments and individuals.

This year, World Refrigeration Day (WRefD) will focus on the theme "Temperature Matters". This theme underscores the profound impact of the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump industry on environmental quality, going beyond mere cooling and heating.

Celebrating Lord Kelvin's legacy
June 26 this year marks the bicentenary of Lord Kelvin, a pioneer of thermodynamics, known for the absolute temperature scale. The 'Temperature Matters' theme pays homage to his legacy, highlighting the essential role that temperature regulation plays in society.

Exploring thermodynamics, WRefD 2024 will emphasize the importance of efficient temperature control in sustainable development, human comfort, and environmental protection amid growing energy demand and climate change.

The chosen theme showcases the industry's technical expertise in providing refrigerated and heated environments, emphasizing the importance of temperature control in everyday applications.

Heat pump and decarbonization technologies
Lord Kelvin's work has paved the way for heat pump technologies, which are central to low-carbon heating strategies. These technologies illustrate the application of cooling principles to heating, demonstrating the critical role of industry in global decarbonization efforts.

This year's campaign will highlight the broader contributions of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump industry. It will highlight the sector's role in maintaining food and medicine supply chains, providing effective and sustainable heating, and creating healthier, more comfortable environments with cleaner air.

Global Initiatives and Education
WRefD 2024 will feature global initiatives aimed at educating the public about the various applications of air conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pumps. The theme "Temperature Matters" ensures a broad approach, capturing global attention and discussing the large-scale importance of the sector.

WRefD founder Stephen Gill said: "This broad theme allows people from all over the world to address local issues and target audiences. By focusing on a universal theme, WRefD 2024 aims to foster global recognition and debate on the sector's broad impact."

Local Engagement and Career Opportunities
The theme "Temperature Matters" is designed to be universally relevant and encourage regions to address their local interests. The campaign will also promote career opportunities in the HVACR sector, urging schools and universities to explore diverse and impactful industry roles.

Announcing this year's theme, Stephen Gill commented: "Temperature control is crucial not only for comfort and health, but also for preserving food, medicines and industrial processes. Temperature can mean the difference between life and death; temperature matters, absolutely."
