FB LAB, first Mexican laboratory developed under NOM 012

FB LAB

Mexico. Bohn presented the FB LAB, the first laboratory developed and certified under the official Mexican standard NOM 012, which specifies the development of best practices for the refrigeration industry.

This laboratory, which follows the international standards of ASHRAE and AHRI, contributes from its practices to the improvement of Evaporators and Condensing Units used in the industry, an issue that positively impacts the end users of these devices.

Located in Querétaro, the FB LAB provides service to the HVAC industry in Mexico and Latin America, within a strictly confidential framework of the results.

Genaro Ramírez, quality manager at the FB LAB, commented: "The objective of this laboratory is to generate knowledge, which we are doing following the international standards of both ASHRAE and AHRI and following the protocol of NOM 012."

Similarly, Ramírez commented that the center has the capacity to evaluate medium temperature and low temperature condensing units, from 1 horsepower to 20 horsepower, as well as low, medium and high profile evaporator units.

This laboratory has a CO2 training area with equipment that is a subcritical system. In addition, they have a variety of equipment that simulates a self-service store, so that the personnel in training can see the performance of the equipment in the real operating conditions and know what techniques to follow to make a proper integration of a CO2 system.

Other outstanding devices in this space are:

A wind tunnel with wide capacity ranges of air volumes and different pressure drops; A calorimeter divided into two stages, which gives it a high range of capacity and a Rack (with 6 compressors, of which 2 are small of variable speed) that allows to evaluate and operate equipment from small to high profile.

Finally, Ramirez was adamant that the results are confidential and that they are hell-bent on offering a space to help evaluate different products, use less energy, and use less refrigerant.
