Colombia. A photovoltaic plant is the energy saving project that was implemented at Hitachi Energy's transformer factory in Dosquebradas, Risaralda. This installation will allow you to save up to 33% of the electricity you need for its operation.
The aforementioned photovoltaic plant has 1,200 solar panels, with an average useful life of 25 years and a generation capacity of 390 kWp (peak kilowatts), which represent 33% of the total energy consumption used by the Dosquebradas factory. That means that this implementation translates into savings of around 860 thousand dollars per year. In turn, this plant produces approximately 15 thousand transformers per year, which cover the demands of the electrical infrastructure of Colombia, as well as other countries in the Americas.
So the strategic thing about this project, in addition to the economic savings it generates and the maintenance of the production margin, is that it is aligned with the company's goal of being carbon neutral for its own operations by 2030.
Likewise, this change brings the plant closer to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations (UN), because it can positively impact the seventh objective of this list, which indicates that energy must be affordable and non-polluting, as well as number twelve, which seeks for "responsible production and consumption".
Alfonso Guerrero, General Manager of Hitachi Energy's Transformer Factory in Risaralda, commented: "We are highly committed to global decarbonization, combined with energy growth, which we estimate will double by 2050, as we believe will go from 20% to 40%."
Relevant data of the factory in Dosquebradas
This transformer plant has the same technology as the rest of the factories (another 60) that Hitachi Energy owns worldwide. In addition, the energy giant said that it is one of the most innovative in the world.
Finally, its location allows it to positively impact about 300 families with direct and indirect jobs, in addition to the 130 national suppliers that benefit from commercial exchange.
