Carrier Launches New Digital Platform for Buildings

Carriera AbundUnited States. Carrier launched Abound, a new open cloud-native platform that aggregates data from different systems and sensors and gives building owners, operators and occupants transparency about relevant and contextual information about air quality, thermal comfort and other performance data.

"Abound will transform a building owner's ability to optimize the indoor environment, increasing the confidence of every visitor and occupant," said Dave Gitlin, Carrier's president and chief executive officer. "Access to real-time actionable data for indoor air quality and other building systems and sensors embodies the future of building health and performance for customers around the world. With this launch we are moving closer to setting industry standards that will provide owners, operators and occupants with greater confidence in their interior spaces."

Abound is a cloud-native offering that uses advanced technology to make building environments smarter, more efficient and more responsive. It connects directly to existing sensors and building systems without the need for upgrades, modifications or replacements. And, unlike other building management platforms, Abound is designed to work easily with all systems, regardless of manufacturer, to unlock and stitch data into silos to provide more powerful and actionable insights. The platform can be installed and scaled quickly and displays data on a single pane of glass and via remote readings.

A distinctive feature of the platform is the ability of building operators to compare building performance related to air quality, ventilation and humidity with thresholds identified by certain air characteristics within the WELL Building Standard (WELL) of the International WELL Building Institute, the global authority on healthy buildings.

Building owners will have the ability to display real-time information and messages about a building's status through Abound's application programming interface (API), which can be used to create digital dashboards and support mobile experiences.

"We are proud that the thresholds on the Abound platform are based on the air quality characteristics of WELL Building Standard, which helps Carrier make something as invisible as air quality more visible and actionable," said Rachel Hodgdon, President and CEO of IWBI. "This platform will help streamline pathways for customers to measure, communicate and report their progress toward WELL certification, which will further IWBI's overall mission of promoting people to the top of the world."

Abund is currently being tested in the U.S., with clients in the commercial building, K-12 education, and sports and entertainment industries, including Truist Park, home of baseball's Atlanta Braves. It is also operating at Carrier's global headquarters and building technology showcase, the Center for Smart Buildings in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
