Brazil. Founded in 1949, Food Mataboi is one of the most traditional cattle slaughter and meat trade refrigerators in all of Brazil. The refrigerator slaughters more than 1,000 heads / day and needs modern equipment for the slaughterhouse, boning, refrigeration, freezing and storage sectors.
The Mataboi engineering team turned to Danfoss to restore the facilities, replace the environments heated with ammonia with glycol systems and application of control valves in the refrigerator located in Araguari, Minas Gerais.
The refrigerator needed to cool the housing chambers, freezing tunnels and storage chambers and other smaller environments. "In the housing chambers we proposed the installation of ICS type suction control valves with CVQ, EVM and CVP pilot. The proposal was to control the air temperature through the proportional opening of the customer's ICS valve and PLC, with the EKC 366 controller, rather than maintaining the constant evaporation pressure of the ammonia refrigerant, as is commonly done." said engineer José Luiz Faria, of Frio Plus Refrigeração, representative of Danfoss.
Since there is a suitable exchange zone of heat evaporators, keeping the air temperature of the chamber constant and allowing the evaporation of floating ammonia, a smaller differential is obtained between the air temperature and the ammonia evaporating, which causes greater relative humidity of the environment and less dehydration of the meat.
In other words, the less degradation of the weight of the carcasses, the better the quality of the meat. For the freezing and storage tunnel of frozen products, the two-stage opening hot gas-operated solenoid valves, ICLX, were adopted to eliminate pressure shocks (RAM) on the lines, bringing greater operational safety and increasing energy efficiency up to 20% from the cooling system.
In addition, Mataboi adopted the glycol flow control roll valve for air-conditioned environments. These valves ensure that the flow rates in each air pusher remain fixed regardless of the existing distances of each heat exchanger in relation to the glycol pumps, eliminating the need for system balance and allowing all devices to reach their maximum performance, in addition to reducing the consumption of pumps, which can operate at lower speeds.
Faria emphasizes that an important differential of Danfoss is the departure of the field engineer, Marcelo Cola, to supervise and guide the assemblers during the installation and commissioning phase. "While ensuring greater reliability for Danfoss, as our products are installed correctly, they provide customer safety and knowledge through the training given to their operators," concludes the Danfoss representative.
