UBV COP16 – Cities Are the Focus for Climate Action

A new report shows that urban areas are the main causes of climate change, and will face the most significant impacts of it.

A new World Bank report outlines how city residents are responsible for up to 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions while also facing the most significant impacts of climate change.

The report, Cities and Climate Change: An Urgent Agenda, says that up to 80 percent of the projected revenues of $80 billion to $100 billion per year in climate change adaptation costs will likely have to exist in urban areas. However, the report says, climate change offers opportunities for cities to change course, implement smart policies and develop sustainable communities.
