With 228 photovoltaic panels installed on the roof, Senac's new professional education unit in the Puerta de Curitiba district will be the largest solar power plant in the state.
The new unit will be inaugurated on July 29 and will be open to the public later this month.
With the installation of the panels, Senac will produce between 30% and 40% of the energy consumed in the unit. "What is not used within a month will generate credits to Copel. We believe that in less than seven years we will recover the value invested in this system", explains one of the Senac architects responsible for the work, André Leite.
With more than 178 GW installed worldwide at the end of 2014, solar energy had a year of growth. "When we were thinking about the installation of the plates we needed to investigate the system and it turned out that Curitiba is better for capturing photovoltaic energy than Bahia. The plates go into fatigue, with a lot of sun, since they have a storage limit, and the fact that Curitiba is almost always a cloudy city favored us," says the architect.
The installation of the plates was one of the determining factors of the work to receive the LEED Platinun Certificate. The new Senac school will have three thousand square meters for courses in the areas of management, communication, information technology and health, in addition to the library and auditorium, with a daily service capacity of 1,914 students.
"This work is multifunctional: it adapts to the demands of the community. It can be configured in several ways; it is a long-lived, intelligent and functional construction. It was designed from start to finish to generate maximum comfort for our students," said Senac architect Eduardo Almeida Pereira.
