International. The United Nations Environment Programme says some 3.6 billion refrigeration equipment is currently in use, and demand is rising as temperatures rise from global warming. If by 2050 the entire population of the world had access to this vital service to preserve food and vaccines – such as the one expected for the cure of Covid19 – up to 14,000 million equipment would be needed.
Given this panorama, the organization expects that thanks to different technologies that help generate the energy efficiency of the refrigeration and household appliances industry, it can reduce between 210,000 and 460,000 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the next four decades.
Thus, every day more companies are involving in their products technologies that take care of the environment, helping to lower the consumption of energy and harmful chemicals. One of them is Nidec Global Appliance, through its brand of compressors Embraco, which since 1971 offers solutions with the use of technology that exceeds the most challenging demands of the market, being a pioneer in promoting the early development of compressors with inverter technology and natural refrigerants.
"The growing search for refrigeration systems with greater energy efficiency and use of natural refrigerants is derived from our motivation to achieve our contribution to the care of the environment through the use of responsible technologies that also provide greater reliability to our industry," said David Ramírez, Application Engineer in Technical Support at Embraco.
It is in this context that Nidec Global Appliance has developed compressors with inverter technology or variable speed, which combine with the use of natural refrigerants.
Inverter compressors offer a number of benefits that can lead to longer cooling equipment life, temperature stability and energy savings. When used with hydrocarbon refrigerants such as propane (R-290), the combination can lead not only to a significant index of global warming potential and also to a faster return on investment due to the ability to use a smaller compressor to obtain the same cooling capacity as that required of a hydrofluorocarbon gas.
The company claims that switching to natural refrigerants can increase energy efficiency by around 8 to 10% (theoretical cycle), even in experimental test results they increase by 10-12%, and by switching from a traditional on/off compressor to an inverter you can reduce consumption by another 20 percent.
