Colombia. The Port of Santa Marta, through a public tender before the Corpus Christi maritime terminal, located in the United States, acquired a state-of-the-art refrigerated warehouse for storage and distribution of frozen products for both import and export.
With this fact, this becomes the first Port in Colombia to have this type of infrastructure, with which they hope to revolutionize the collection and distribution of products that require a cold chain in the country.
Technically, the warehouse is made up of 10,000 Mt2 (1 hectare) of refrigerated space, with capacity to store 8,615 pallets, 19 loading docks with hermetic closure, Temperature ranges: -28F to +50F, modern control technology of ambient refrigeration systems, eight modules convertible to cooler / freezer, storage control by means of WMS technology, refrigeration system with ammonia and rapid freezing tunnel at -35F, among others, non-existent to date in the country.
That said, this infrastructure will offer storage services at controlled temperatures through automatic registration systems with alarms, allowing constant monitoring of the products collected, guaranteeing their preservation; also docks for loading and unloading operations, equipped with electric forklifts, stevedores and qualified personnel to carry out the movements of the products; re-packing, stowage, palletizing, sorting, reviewing and separating products, transfers of full containers from the port to the hold and the transport of containers to and from the port, among others, which will guarantee a significant reduction in times.
The refrigerated warehouse, which will bear the name of the port in which it was acquired, Corpus Christi, will be the largest of its kind in the country and will serve as a large platform for handling frozen cargo both for collection and distribution to its place of destination, sheltering the products it stores under the free regime, which will make even more efficient the operation and handling of frozen cargoes in the country as well as the attached benefits such as job creation, significant reductions in logistics costs and distribution times.
